Questions about head treatments

What is Shirodhara?
Shirodhara is the continuous pouring of warm Ayurvedic oil in a steady stream over the forehead, carried out by two therapists. Each session lasts about 60 minutes and is traditionally used for Vata conditions such as stress and insomnia.
What is the difference between Shirodhara, Takradhara and Ksheeradhara?
The technique is the same; the liquid changes. Shirodhara uses oil for Vata, Takradhara uses herb-infused buttermilk for Vata-Pitta, and Ksheeradhara uses herb-infused milk for Pitta.
Will my hair be oily afterwards?
Yes. The oil is left in the hair for the rest of the day, so bring a scarf or cap and plan to wash your hair the next morning rather than straight after.
Can I book more than one Shirodhara session?
Yes. Two and three-session options are listed, and the sessions should be taken within the same week so the effect builds.
Who should tell the therapist before booking?
Anyone with a fever, a scalp infection, a recent head injury or neck surgery, or who is pregnant. Tell us too if you cannot lie on your back comfortably for an hour.
