Questions about body treatments
- What is Abhyanga?
- Abhyanga is a full-body massage with warm Ayurvedic oil chosen for your dosha, covering the head and feet as well. At Nepveda a session is 60 or 90 minutes.
- How is Udvertana different from Abhyanga?
- Udvertana is a vigorous scrub with herbal powders rather than an oil massage. It can be done dry or with oil, and is traditionally chosen for Kapha conditions such as heaviness and sluggish circulation.
- What should I wear or bring?
- Nothing special. You will be given a disposable undergarment and towels, and oil is wiped off before you dress. Avoid wearing clothes you would not want a trace of oil on.
- Should I eat before a body treatment?
- Come with a light stomach: a small meal two hours before is fine, a heavy meal is not. Drink water afterwards and rest for the remainder of the day if you can.
- Who should tell the therapist before booking?
- Anyone who is pregnant, has a fever, an infection or an open wound on the skin, or is recovering from surgery. Prasootika Abhyanga is the version prepared for the weeks after childbirth.
- How many sessions are usual?
- A single session is a complete treatment. For a specific concern the consulting practitioner may suggest a course of 7 to 14 days, which is priced as a package with a 15 to 25 percent discount.
